Your fibre planning reference
The target is a population reference for adult women, paired with a gradual increase of up to 5 grams per week.
Increase fibre gradually and drink enough fluid. Individual needs and tolerance can differ from a population reference.

How the target is selected
The calculator uses established Dietary Reference Intake values for adult women: 25 grams per day through age 50, 21 grams from age 51, 28 grams during pregnancy, and 29 grams while breastfeeding.
If your estimate is below that reference, the planner divides the gap into weekly steps of no more than 5 grams. A gradual increase can be easier to tolerate than a large immediate change.
Building fibre gradually
Foods such as beans, lentils, whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds can add fibre alongside other nutrients. Increase variety and quantity at a pace that works for you.
Limits of this estimate
- A rough intake estimate can miss portion sizes and differences between food products.
- A population reference is not a prescription and does not account for every medical condition, symptom, medication, or nutrition goal.
- The estimated number of weeks assumes a steady increase and does not require you to increase when symptoms make that uncomfortable.
